Review: Shimmer By Paula Weston. #aww2014

Release Date: July 3rd 2014.
Publisher: Text Publishing.
Source: From publisher in exchange for an honest review.

#It is the 13th book I have read for the Australian Women Writers Challenge.

*Shimmer is the third book in The Rephaim series and therefore this review will contain spoilers for books one and two, but not Shimmer itself.

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Gaby thought her life couldn’t get more complicated.

She’s almost used to the idea that she’s not the nineteen-year-old backpacker she thought she was. She can just about cope with being one of the Rephaim – a 140-year-old half-angel – whose memories have been stolen. She’s even coming to grips with the fact that Jude, the brother she’s mourned for a year, didn’t die at all.

But now Rafa—sexy, infuriating Rafa—is being held, and hurt, by Gatekeeper demons. And Gaby has to get the bitterly divided Rephaim to work together, or Rafa has no chance at all.

It’s a race against time – and history. And it may already be too late.

My Thoughts:
5 out of 5 stars.

I love this series with the love of a thousand hearts. It makes me want to squeal and jump up and down while hugging this book. Shimmer was another outstanding installment of the Rephaim series. No other angel book compares to this one, seriously. It flies high above the other ones, looking down with a smirk in all its awesomeness.
All I can say is I am so glad there is another book – a book I need right now! When a series is this good, waiting for the next book is the worst.

The events in Shimmer were set over one day, and if I had a day like the one Gaby had, I’d just want to crawl into bed and sleep for a month. At the end of Haze, Rafa was trapped in a room with demons and Jude, Gaby’s twin brother who she thought was missing, was found. In Shimmer, Gaby is on a mission to get Rafa back, and she wants the help of the Rephaim to do it. She needs to convince Nathaniel and the Council of Five to go on a rescue mission.
The Outcasts have been brought to the sanctuary because it is the only place they are safe from demons. The Outcasts and Rephaim aren’t happy to be in each others presence and rumbles ensue.
Gaby and Jude are glad to have each other back, and I really enjoyed their relationship. They stuck close together, and Jude supported Gaby 100% in all she wanted to do, even though he has just been thrust into this world he doesn’t remember.

Shimmer had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading it. I was sucked in straight away and didn’t come up for air until it was finished. I wanted to scream when it ended. It can’t end there, it just can’t. How can I survive a year without any answers? How? Weston really knows how to leave a reader dangling over a cliff.

Shimmer was very satisfying. It met all my expectations and then some. Lovers of this series will not be disappointed in the third installment. It still has the heart-pumping action and the simmering romance of the other books, as well as the well-rounded characters and the flawless writing. I can’t recommend this enough. Go and read this now, it will not disappoint.
