A Writerly Update 78.

Hey Everyone,

I have had a hectic and a sad week this week. My daughter’s guinea pig, which we had for a year, died. She was a cute little thing. I loved her and was very saddened by her death.

I also didn’t make it into Pitch Wars. I thought I was in with a good chance, but I didn’t let my hopes get too high considering over 1000 people entered and there were only something like 150 spots. It didn’t get me too down though because I had a back up plan. If I didn’t get into Pitch Wars then I was going to submit a different MG manuscript to the Ampersand Prize, where an Australian or New Zealand writer can win a contract with Hardie Grant Egmont.
The reason I am submitting a different MG maunscript to the Ampersand Prize is because the manuscript I sent to Pitch Wars wasn’t as ready as my other MG manuscript, which was OK for Pitch Wars because if you won you got to work with an author for two months getting it ready.

So I’ve been concentrating on getting this other MG ready for the Ampersand Prize, which closes September 14th. That’s not very far away and I haven’t finished editing it yet. (I am only slightly worried I won’t be ready in time.) I only need to print it out now and go through it one last time. It’s only 30,000 words so I should be able to do it.

That’s it from me. How was your week writing wise?

  1. Sorry to hear about the guinea pig. Writing week – am in a weird no man’s land whilst I wait for reader feedback on my novel. Can’t really start anything major so I am writing lots of short stories and reading lots.

  2. Keep editing girl! It’s great to hear you’re submitting your MG to the Ampersand. At the moment I just finished a massive copy edit of my whole YA novel, and now I just have to proof read it and then submit it to Ampersand. We’re nearly there!!!
