I can’t believe it has been over a month since I last posted. I am so sorry, but my life has been extremely hectic and blogging has been the last thing on my mind. I suffer from anxiety and my anxiety has been through the roof due to my son, who has ADHD, having trouble with his medication and getting into lots of trouble at school. It’s been one big headache and *hopefully* it is all sorted out now that he has new medication. He has been sick all week and so we haven’t been able to try it at school yet, but *if* I can get him to take it, he should be fine. (That’s another long story.)
Anyway, I’ve been focused on my son, and had a lot more appointments than usual, and had hardly any time to read – I’m lucky if I’ve managed to read one book a week in the last month, which is totally outrageous for me. And I’ve barely written – last week I think I wrote one hour in the whole week! Again, that is totally outrageous for me, but I’ve started to get back on track. I’m actually really looking forward to the school holidays next week. Even though the kids will be home, all my other commitments and appointments stop and I can spend more time at home. I am creating a schedule to make certain I get lots of writing done to make up for the time I’ve lost, and I’m prepared to wake up early in order to do so if that’s what it takes. (I would write when the kids are in bed except my mind shuts down at night and I produce nothing of quality, so early mornings work better for me.)
On the book front:
I did manage to read Glass Sword – and OMG! I loved it, of course, and what the heck is with that ending?! I’ll have a review and related giveaway soon so stay tuned!
For Easter I got Lady Midnight and Waer and can’t wait to read either.
I am currently reading Changers which I am really enjoying, it is so funny.
On the writing front:
I am mostly back to writing an hour a day, which is my minimum. My goal is to write at least two hours a day, and four hours a day on my two commitment free days. I have also established for myself a 15 minute a day goal for those days where I have extra commitments. I usually get 0 words written on these days, but the other day I had two appointments to get to, plus work, but I hadn’t written in the days previously and I was ITCHING to write, so I squeezed in 15 minutes between the appointments and it felt so good. Plus 15 minutes is achievable even on my busiest of days. And it means I’m not having 0 word days. 🙂
On the blog front:
I am way behind on my reviews – I still haven’t caught up since the end of last year – so I will be posting a lost of reviews between here and my tumblr.
That’s about it from me. How is life treating you lately? How is your reading going? How about your writing? What are your daily goals? I’d love to hear from you.
Hope things get back on track for you soon 🙂
Thank you 🙂
I’m sorry to hear about your anxiety, Rochelle. I really hope that it starts to die down a little – it can be so horrible. I also hope that everything works out with your son’s new medication.
I’ve only heard good things about Lady Midnight and Waer, so they should be good ones to read when you have the time!
Don’t worry about review copies – publishers know that life takes first priority, and I’m sure they’ll appreciate the reviews whenever they get them.
I don’t really have writing goals, so I have a lot of zero word days. But I hate forcing myself to write, so I’m okay with that. I did write a short story on Friday, though, which felt good 😀
Thank you,, Chiara. Things are staring to die down now and I’m looking forward to the school holidays so I can relax and not have to worry about school.
I try not to stress too much about review copies anymore, I used to let it stress me out a lot and I liked to have them done on time, but then life started getting in the way too much and I had to sort out my priorities.
I love writing short stories, they are so satisfying. Good luck with getting it published if that’s what you want to do with it.
It sounds like you’ve been dealing with a lot at home, Rochelle! I hope the school holidays help to settle things down a bit and help you all get into a good routine. And it’d be awesome if you work out a way of getting some satisfying writing in there, too. When you want to write, but can’t find the time or space to, it can be a real struggle, but when you find that answer- whether it be a new routine or a change in your workload or whatnot- and it clicks, it’s awesome. I really hope you find that! It sounds like you’re on track for it, though, so I’ll wish you happy writing! x
A few days into the school holidays and things are starting to get back on track. I’ve got some solid writing time in and that feels so good.
